Mid City is where institutional arts, immigrant histories, and underground creativity converge within a few compact blocks. Built in the 1920s and 1930s, Miracle Mile introduced Art Deco landmarks, independent theaters, and an arts presence that paved the way for LACMA’s evolving campus. Smaller creative spaces and the MAK Center residency have long supported experimental and architectural work, giving the area a quieter, underground current.
Once the epicenter of movie palaces, Miracle Mile remains a creative hub with galleries like Sprügth Magers, PACE and Kordansky as well as boutiques, cafés, and diverse dining. South of Wilshire, Little Ethiopia emerged in the late 20th century with traditional restaurants, markets, and community gathering spots.
